Villa Chiozza di Cervignano, March 1st, 2012 – The pilots of “Frecce Tricolori”, the Italian
National Aerobatic Team known all over the world for its great aerobatics, train every day
in the skies of Friuli Venezia Giulia. After the success of the past four years, which
reconfirms the Frecce Tricolori as one of Friuli Venezia Giulia’s main attractions, the
guided tours at the air base of Rivolto, organized by Agenzia TurismoFVG (Friuli
Venezia Giulia’s Tourist Board) in cooperation with the Italian Air Force, will start again. In
March the tours will be held on Fridays starting from March 9th, while the tours in the
following months are being scheduled.
Fans and simple visitors will have the opportunity to visit the air base of Rivolto together
with a member of the Air Force Team. The base, located 20 km far from Udine, has been
hosting the training centre of the Italian National Aerobatic Team since the 1920s, when
the first military aerobatic team was established. The tours, which last about three hours,
provide the opportunity to discover all the secrets of aerobatic flight: supported by videos,
the members of the Italian Air Force will explain the characteristics of the aircrafts, the
flight techniques and the special equipment they use on flight and will illustrate the
everyday life at the base. During the visit it will also be possible to see closely the
Aermacchi MB339, the aircraft currently used by the Frecce Tricolori. If the Aerobatic
Team shows are on schedule, it will also be possible to watch the training flights in the sky
over Rivolto.
Visits must be booked at least ten days in advance, filling in the form on the regional
tourism website www.turismofvg.it. To enter the base, visitors must be on board of the
special shuttle bus, which pick up people either at the TurismoFVG Information Point in
Udine or at the parking area of the air base in Rivolto. During the whole tour, visitors will
be accompanied by Italian-speaking and English-speaking guides.
FVG Card (Friuli Venezia Giulia’s Tourist Card) holders will get a discount on the ticket
price (5 € instead of 10), while admission for children up to 12 years old is for free. To get
further information on the dates and to book the tour, please visit the regional tourism
portal www.turismofvg.it or phone Udine’s TurismoFVG Information Point tel. +39 0432
295972.
